Thanksgiving Special: Blood Rage

We have a new Thanksgiving episode just for you. Give this bad boy a listen while driving to visit family...or better yet, use those fancy wireless earbuds and drown out your relatives at Thanksgiving dinner. Stream it from the player or click the download button.

Granted, your family probably isn't as messed up as The Simmons: One of the twin boys, Todd & Terry,  brutally murdered someone at a drive-in theater 10 years ago...and one of the twins has been in an institution since then. He breaks out and heads home for Thanksgiving to make things right with the world. Lots of slashing and some effective gore FX ensue.

We've got The Broken Plane Podcast hosts JB & TK back for more. They were kind enough to be guests on last year's Turkey Day extravaganza Home, Sweet Home. Check out their show and give them a follow on Twitter: @TheBrokenPlane.

From all of us, safe travels and happy Thanksgiving!

TK's Blood Rage limerick:
There were two twin brothers, Todd & Terry
Todd went silent when Terry got scary
When Todd snapped out of it
That's when Terry lost his shit
Thanksgiving dinner's served with blood, not cranberry

That's not cranberry sauce, Artie...

The Executioner, Part II

Matt is joined by Jesse and John Morgan to discuss this James Bryan (Don't Go Into the Woods Alone) directed, Renee Harmon (Frozen Scream) written bit of vigilante sleaze.
- There is no Part I, by the way.
- I don't think PTSD-sploitation has been officially coined yet...so "dibs!"
- Starring Chris Mitchum, Renee Harmon, and Aldo Ray.

Jesse provided a haiku poem:
the grenade slips down
use the gun, never bullets
transitions are for punks

Satan's Storybook

Guests Jason Farrell and Devin Bruce join the show to discuss a shot-on-video obscurity from 1989. Ginger Lynn Allen takes on Beelzebub himself via his wife/her sister. Ol' Scratch is so worried, he needs his jester to distract him with 2 stories about awesome sinners.
Argento & Bava's light palettes are stolen and incompetently aped...voices are demonically incomprehensible...sad clowns kick the bucket...and holy warriors are white ninjas? Hoo-boy.
For more from our guests...
Devin Bruce: Apocalypse Kow
Jason Farrell: Douglas & Dragons

GHOSTS OF HANLEY HOUSE part 3 of 3 - out now!

It's been a wile ride slogging through and riffing on this obscure Texas drive-in movie. I had a great time doing it but am definitely looking forward to another one soon with some friends to help carry the weight. I'm just happy I could prove Joe wrong. It WAS riffable. In your face, Joe!

GHOSTS OF HANLEY HOUSE part 2 of 3 now on YouTube!

Please enjoy the continuation of the Hanley House riff. As a reminder, folks who subscribe to our feed got this earlier and got their own keepsake file to put in the vault along with their slabbed Spawn #1 and Trump coins.

I AM HERE....NOW

It's time for another Neil Breen joint! Sarah and Adam are back to talk about Breen's I AM HERE....NOW ('09), wherein Breen plays a messianic character (gasp) who created Earth and its creatures and He's disappointed with what we've done with the place in His absence. This is another corker from the ego-trippin' Las Vegas architect-cum-auteur Neil Breen.

F.A.R.T.: The Movie

It's been quiet here this summer, huh? We're still high on Wings Hauser month. There are lots of irons in the fire and some great stuff coming down the pike, including a movie riff coming out in 3 parts as a vidcast: Ghosts of Hanley House In the meantime, Joe and Jason joined Matt and his wife Renee for some homemade chili and an endurance challenge: who will be the last to tap out during the SOV POS F.A.R.T.: The Movie? "Russell has two passions: watching television and farting! He also loves Heather. Heather HATES farting. The eternal triangle! One day she warns him, 'if they ever allow farting on television, you'll never leave the house!' One evening he goes to sleep in front of the TV, and 'it' happens. Virtually everything on TV is fart-related, from sitcoms and commercials, to newscasts and dramas."

JUNE IS WINGS HAUSER MONTH

We have officially decreed it: June is Wings Hauser month! Last year, we embarked on a podcrawl of the SUBSPECIES movies. This time around, we're exploring the filmography of Wings, who we were so taken with on our recent GETEVEN: ROAD TO REVENGE episode. We stuck with that movie's early '90s satanic panic theme and watched MIND, BODY & SOUL (1992), starring Ginger Lynn Allen. We'll be sharing the other podcast's episode as they're available.

Cherry Hill High

Joe and Matt slip slide away to the late '70s, when sexy comedies were sexy and comical. I'm not sure we get it. This is the story of five girls who graduate high school, go on a bicycle trip with one of their former teachers, and try to lose their virginity in the most unique way possible. It's got everything you need from a late '70s movie: CB radios, dopey folk-y songs, and adult situations (that are really mild). Download from iTunes or from our fancy embedded player.

Shaitani Dracula!

Matt, Robert Hafferman, and Jason Farrell discuss this half-speed Benny Hill Halloween episode from 2006(?!?). We didn't hablo the Hindi, so we were forced to watch closely as the Prince of Darkness' styrofoam-winged minions swooped in on unsuspecting campers from atop off-screen rolling chairs and sporting plastic fangs. This one was...difficult.

THE GOD INSIDE MY EAR (2018)

Matt is joined by Alan White (The Power Principle) and Andrew Shaw (Cul-de-sac) to discuss the new film by Joe Badon: THE GOD INSIDE MY EAR, a film that defies easy categorization, but is part horror, absurd comedy, paranoid conspiracy, and psychedelic trip. Look for it at a festival near you!

Our namesake song

Our show is named after The Kingsmen's cover of "That's Cool, That's Trash." It's a fun little slab of sloppy '60s rock that's fits us to a T. Something that bugs the hell out of me is that no one on the wide, wide web has the lyrics right. This aggression will not stand, man...

Here's what Charlie Google will tell us the first verse is:

There's gonna be a big party at my house
(La-la la-la-la-la la-la, that's cool)
I'm chargin' two bucks to get into my house
(La-la la-la-la-la la-la, that's trash)
You know the food and the drinks are all for free
If you want to pay the cook you gotta find-a me

The premise of the song is established in the first couplet: this guy's having a bash at his place (cool!), but he's charging to get in (lame!). No one seems to have the second part of the verse right and with context clues, it's pretty obvious what it is. Here's the wrong way:
You know the food and the drinks are all for free
If you want to pay the cook you gotta find-a me

That second line blows it and makes it sound like Mario is throwing the party. First of all, it doesn't even have internal consistency: everything's free, so if you want some, you have to find me and pay me? WTH? The real lyrics continue the comical good news/bad news scenario established at the outset. Here's what they actually are:
You know the food and the drinks are all for free
But if you want a plate or cup you've got to buy it from me

Okay, I've put it out there. Now someone go fix it on the Internet for me. Thanks!

GETEVEN (a/k/a Road to Revenge, a/k/a Champagne & Bullets)

A classic lineup of Matt, Kyle, and Joe watched the 1993 action-romance-kung fu-revenge movie GETEVEN, written by, directed by, produced by, starring, songs by, and starring John de Hart. This movie didn't get wide release until some re-shoots were done in 2007 and, man, oh, man, was it worth the wait. You've got Satanic drug dealing judges, leather pants, gratuitous sex scenes, and some bananas original songs. We couldn't shut up about this one. Get it on iTunes or HERE.

The Hollywood Strangler Meets the Skid Row Slasher

Around 1970, Ray Dennis Steckler went from making cheap, weird horror movies to cheap, sad X-rated ones. Apparently, he got nostalgic and made this sleazy affair. Marvel at the lack of any synced audio! Wonder at the lack of any plot! Shower after watching!

Back and Breener than ever!

It's been a rough winter, gang, but we're back and ready to share a new cinematic passion: Neil Breen. Fateful Findings is a 2013 movie about a brilliant computer wiz/best-selling author who is about to Wikileak all of the world's dirty secrets...and there's a, uh, black cube..that's, umm...alien? Magical? Well, it's fateful and it's found where a mushroom was and it's got...powers? I'm so in love with this thing, I want to call it and coordinate outfits every morning. If you haven't seen any of his films yet, please, stop what you're doing and go buy or rent ANY of them. They defy explanation and bring us endless joy. Get it here or on iTunes.
You're fake movies...and you're fake movies...

SMALL WONDER

We tried something new. This episode was recorded live and in person and we talked about a TV show instead of movie. Bizarro World, right?

Matt's joined by Joe and Jacob Balcom to discuss one of the oddest sitcoms of the 1980s: Small Wonder, the story of the Lawson family and their little girl robot Vicki, who must be kept secret from the rest of the world, despite talking like a Commodore 64.

We watched the pilot episode and one from season three (!) where Vicki's evil counterpart Vanessa is introduced. It's a wild ride.
Get a free download of Jacob's album So Long Everybody on Bandcamp!

It's a Small Wonder...

This weekend, we're recording, in person, our ep covering the SMALL WONDER pilot.
I know what you're thinking, "How is this watching a psychotronic MOVIE online and getting together on SKYPE to break down the crazy?" Short answer: it's complicated.

Watch along so we can argue about New Coke, whether this Michael Jordan kid deserves to be the Rookie of the Year, & if Back to the Future is worth watching...
